Nigerian Equities Market Update: Wednesday, 14th March, 2018-Gtbank Analysis

Taking the market back to five day’s low, equities trading on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange dived south, losing 54Bpts of its trading points and closed at 42,839.49 from 43,073.42. NSE-Insurance and NSE-Industrial Goods added marginal points while other observed market indices swerved. Week to Date, the lead performance index is below opening by 76Bpts while total lost point for the month of March is now 113Bpts. See the index movement table for details.

Value loss by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N83.695 billion, same as 54Bpts below the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 15 advancers and 42 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date gain is now 12.02% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.715 trillion same as 12.61% above the year’s opening value.

The management of Stanbic IBTC today reported a cash dividend of 50k for the full year ended 31st December, 2017. The qualification date for the dividend is scheduled for Wednesday 28th March, 2018. The payment date for same is 20th June, 2018 while the annual general meeting will hold at Eko Hotel & Suites, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island Lagos, on Tuesday 19 June 2018 at 10.00 a.m.

In another report, Guaranty Trust Bank unveiled its full year financial result for the year ended 31st December, 2017. In the result a final dividend of N2.40 was announced. The qualification date for the said dividend is Tuesday, 27th March, 2018. Payment date is 10th April, 2018, while the company’s annual general meeting will be held at Oriental Hotel, 3 Lekki road, Victorial Island Lagos on Tuesday 10th April, 2018 at 10 a.m.

Estimates from the results shows that the amount earned per unit share is N5.79, this is 28.87% above the N4.49 earned in 2016. The said earnings yielded 35.64% as against the 27.66% yield achieved last year. PE/Ratio reduced to 2.81x from 3.62x, meanwhile, Book Value per share is now estimated at N21.24 as against the previous N17.16. Please note that the N2.40 final dividend is 41.44% of the amount earned, in other words, Payout ratio is 41.44% and dividend yield is 5.07% of the current market price. Total Debt to Equity is 61.59%.
