Nigerian Equities Market Update: Tuesday, 13th March, 2018

Trading activities on the floor of The Nigerians Stock Exchange today inched north by 4Bpts as it closed at 43,073.42 from 43,056.51. It was a mixed performance amongst the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Week to Date the lead activities index is down by 22Bpts while 59Bpts had been lost in the month of March. See the index movement table for details.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N6.059 billion, same as 4Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 26 advancers and 39 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date gain is now 12.63% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.799 trillion same as 13.22% above the year’s opening value.

Yesterday, the management of Champion Breweries unveiled its financial statistics for the year ended December 31st, 2017. According to the report, no cash/scrip dividend was announced for the year, this is same for 2016 financial year. Nevertheless, 7k was estimated as the amount earned per units of its issued and fully paid shares. This resulted in only 2.37% yield over the current market price. Book Value is N1.04. Please note that at PE/Ratio of 43.11x, the stock may have been overvalued. Profit Margin is 10.83% while Return on Average Equity is 6.36%.

The management of Zenith Bank today dazed the market with a whooping N2.45k cash dividend, this amount plus the previously paid interim dividend of 25k equates the total cash dividend paid for the year ended December 2017 to N2.70, this is same as 8.71% of the current market price. Estimated earnings per share for the fourth quarter of 2017 is N5.67, this yielded 18.28% of the current market price. Book Value is estimated at N26.17 while Profit Margin and Return on Average Equity are respectively 23.88% and 21.66%. Closure date is between 4th-9th April 2018 (both dates inclusive).
