Nigerian Equities Market Update for the Week Ended 5th May, 2017

Rounding up the last trading day of the week on a positive note, the lead activities index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange added 26Bbpts at it ended on 26,235.63 point. Only HWC5-Index shed points while NSE-Consumer Goods closed flat. Other observed market indices followed the lead indicator’s path as shown in the index movement table. At the end of the week, both Week to Date and Month to Date market returns were positive at 182Bpts each.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N23.792 billion, same as 26Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 28 advancers and 8 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -2.38% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N177.828 billion same as 1.92% below the year’s opening value.

Forty Three (43) equities ended the week above their respective opening prices. Fidson led with 43.64% price appreciation as it share price was revalued to N1.58 from the week opening price of N1.10. Oando followed with 24.05% gain as it closed at N7.17 from N5.78. Livestock Feeds’ share price improved by 16.22% while NAHCO and Newrest Asl completed the top five gainers for the week with 16.22% and 15.20% gain.

Meanwhile sixteen (16) equities featured on the lagers’ log for the week. Percentage loss on the share price of Unity Bank was the highest as it shed 13.79% of its opening price. Champion Breweries also emerged on the list with 8.94% loss. Stanbic IBTC, NASCON and Axa Mansard completed the top five list with 6.67%, 5.77% and 5.73% loss respectively.

Three equities were adjusted for cash dividend during the week. Consolidated Hallmark was adjusted for N0.02 dividend, Axa Mansard was marked down for N0.05 dividend while Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank was adjusted for N0.03.

Please note that the following equities will be adjusted for the recently announced incentives during the new week; Nestle Foods (Closure Date: 8th – 12th, 2017), Dangote Cement (Closure Date: 15th – 19th , 2017), AIICO Insurance (Closure Date: 8th – 11th , 2017), Med View Airlines (Closure Date: 8th – 11th , 2017) and FBNH (Closure Date: 8th – 12th , 2017).

Four companies have been delisted from the daily official list of The Exchange effective, 02 May 2017, they are; Beco Petroleum Products Plc, MTECH Communications Plc, MTI Plc 4. UTC Nigeria Plc.

A total of 393,415,535 ordinary shares were added to the outstanding shares of Portland Paints and Product Nigeria Plc on the 4th of May 2017. The additional shares arose from rights issue of 600,000,000 ordinary shares of 50 kobo issued at N1.70 per share.
