Three (3) Consecutive Red Weeks: NSEASI Gave Up 111Bpts WtD

Trading activities on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange on Friday gave up 39Bpts, as the lead performance pointer NSEASI closed at 27,755.87 from 27,864.84. Safe NSE-Lotus II Index that gained, other observed market indices in this report shed points. Thus, Week to Date, activities index is 111Bpts below opening while the total lost points for the month of February is now 3776pts. See the index movement table for details.

Value loss by the Market Capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N56.753 billion, same as 39Bpts below the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 09 ADVANCERS and 19 LAGERS. NSEASI Year to Date gain is now 340pts while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.497 trillion same as 1,156Bpts above the year’s opening value.

As noted above, The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization dipped by 1.11% each to close the week at 27,755.87 and N14.455 trillion respectively.

Among the observed indices in this report, only NSE-Industrial Goods gained 78Bpts-WtD, while others led by; NSE-Consumer Goods (647Bpts), NSE-Insurance (216Bpts), NSE-Lotus II (206Bpts) closed below their respective openings for the week. See the index movement table for details.

A total of 19 listed equities rounded up the week above their opening prices, 35 shed points while 109 remained unchanged through the week. The gainers list was led by Livestock Feeds with 16.67% as it closed at N0.70 from N0.60. UCAP followed on the list with 15.29% gain and closed at N2.94 from N2.55. TransExpress, Learn Africa and Prestige completed the top 5 list with 11.11%, 9.73% and 9.26% respectively.

Linkage Ass led the decliners’ log with 25.81% loss, thus it closed at N0.46 from N0.62. SkyAvn came next on the list with 23.26%, thus it rounded up the week at N2.87 from N3.74. Guinness, Vitafoam and Nestle Foods completed the top 5 price percentage losers for the week with 16.56% 12.11% and 10.00% respectively.

During the week, the management of Nigerian Breweries led the season today, as it announced its final dividend for the year ended 31st December, 2019. In the report, it proposed N1.50 cash dividend. The qualification date for the said dividend is 4th March, 2020, while the payment and the Agm Date are slated for 23rd and 22nd April, 2020 respectively.

Also, UACN Properties announced the revised terms to its proposed right issue. The revised terms of the Rights Issue is now as follows: Fifteen Billion Nine Hundred and Sixty-one Million Five Hundred and Seventy-four Thousand One Hundred and Forty-five (15,961,574,145) ordinary shares of 50 kobo each at N1.00 per Share on the basis of 43 new Ordinary Shares for every 7 Ordinary Shares held as at the close of business on Monday, 30 September 2019.

Although the market is struggling between the two market Lords (Bull & Bear) at the moment, it is clear that good numbers of traders are currently sitting on the fence while the few active ones takes sides with the bear.
