Nigerian Equities Market Reverses Previous Gains, as NSEASI Gives Up 5Bpts-13th Feb., 2020

Equities trading on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange ended the day’s trading activities in the negative territory, as the lead performance pointer NSEASI gave up 5Bpts and closed at 27,864.84 from 27,878.43. It was a mixed performance amongst the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Thus, Week to Date, lead activities index is 72Bpts below opening while the total lost points in the month of February is now 339Bpts. see the index movement table for details.

Value loss by the Market Capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N7.080 billion, same as 5Bpts below the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 13 ADVANCERS and 15 LAGERS. NSEASI Year to Date gain is now 381Bpts while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.554 trillion same as 1,199Bpts above the year’s opening value.

At the end of today’s trading activities, UCAP Led the advancers’ log with 10.00% to close at N2.86 from N2.60, Learn Africa followed with 9.73% to close at N1.24 from N1.13. Completing the top five price percentage gainers are; Wapic (9.09%), Livestock Feeds (8.33%), and Guaranty Trust Bank (6.83%).

LawUnion led the decliners’ log with 9.84% as it rounded up at N1.10 from N1.22. Japaul Oil followed on the log with 8.33% loss as it close at N0.22 from N0.24. Nem Insurance, AIICO and Jaiz Bank completed the top five price percentage losers’ list with 7.27%, 5.88% and 4.55% loss respectively.

Although the market is struggling between the two market Lords (Bull & Bear) at the moment, it is clear that good numbers of traders are currently sitting on the fence while the few active ones takes sides with the bear. In our opinion, traders are on the watch for the earnings period to take off. Meanwhile, the management of Nigerian Breweries led the season today, as it announced its final dividend for the year ended 31st December, 2019. In the report, it proposed N1.50 cash dividend. The qualification date for the said dividend is 4th March, 2020, while the payment and the Agm Date are slated for 23rd and 22nd April, 2020 respectively.

As at the time this report was gathered, Brent Crude sells at 56.53$/bbl, this is 74Bpts above the previous close price.

The I&E FX Window opened at N364.91 traded as high as N365.75 before rounding up at N364.92, having transacted a total of $712.05 million through the day. In the money market, the Overnight (O/N) rate closed at 3.36%, same as 12.56% below the previous closing position. Meanwhile, Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate ended at 2.64% that is 12.77% below the previous close. We are of the opinion that the money market will maintain this range on the next business day. Safe Trade.
