Nigerian Equities Market Update: Market Mood Brightenes Further as NSEASI Adds another 52Bpts

Reversing good portion of the lost points during Wednesday’s trading activities, the lead performance index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange added 52Bpts and ended the day’s trading activities at 25,753.00 point. NSE-Consumer Gds and NSE-Industrial Goods shed points while other observed market indices closed green. Week to Date, market is in the green by 224Bpts while total points added during the month so far is 93Bpts. See the index movement table for details.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N45.696 billion, same as 52Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 22 advancers and 15 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -4.17% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N335.929 billion same as 3.63% below the year’s opening value.

The management of First Bank Holdings finally unveiled its full year financial performance for the year ended 31st December, 2016. According to the report the management is proposing a 20k cash dividend (as contained in page 107-Note 53 of the report document). Details of the dividend are yet to be published. Meanwhile, the profit for the year stood slightly below the comparable year at N12.243 billion against N15.148 billion in 2015. Similarly, profit made through the first three months of 2017 was estimated at N15.882 billion, lower than the N20.724 billion reported in the similar period of 2016.

Companies that released 3-months financial performance during today’s trading activities include; ETI- PAT-N18.681 billion against N16.206 billion, Access Bank- PAT- 26.019 billion against N19.418 billion, UBA-PAT-N22.350 billion against N16.986 billion, FCMBH-PAT-N1.581 billion against N1.645 billion, UACN-PAT-N605.52 million against N1.316 billion, Oando-PAT-N1.711 billion against N4.101 billion, Diamond Bank-PAT-N4.808 billion against N5.760 billion, UBN-PAT-N4.519 billion against N4.719 billion, MCNicholes-PAT- N6.653 million against N13.039 million, Unity Kapital-PAT-N199.481 million against N39.264 million, Transcorp Hotels-PAT-N388.405 million against N964.793 million and Meyer Plc-LAT-N64.980 million against PAT of N19.776 million.

In another report, the management of Berger Paints announced the adjustment in its closure date from 17th April, 2017 to 21st April, 2017. The Implication of the adjustment is that, investors whose names appear in the registrar’s book as at 21st of April will be qualified for the cash incentives previously announced. That is, those who sold off before the date will forfeit the right to the 50k cash dividend earlier proposed in its full year 2016 financials.
