Nigerian Equities Market: Update 11th January, 2017

Closing marginally north, the performance pointer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange NSEASI added 15Bpts as it closed at 26,385.80 point. NSE-Consumer Goods, NSE-Insurance and NSE-Industrial Goods all dived while other observed market indices gained. Week to Date, the market is up by 51Bpts, meanwhile total points lost within the month is 182Bpts.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N168.194 billion same as 15Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, today’s trading activities produced 19 advancers and 16 lagers. NSEASI YtD loss is     -1.82% while the Market Capitalization YtD loss stood at –N168.194 billion.

Although the market still maintained the uptrend achieved during the last festive period, investors seem to be threading with heightened cautiousness. There appeared to be calculated attempt to exit few highly capitalized equities, especially when the possibility of increased earnings is weak. We are of the opinion that selection with nine months financials is an intelligent investment decision.

Okomu Oil Led the price percentage gainers log for the day with 10.21% as it closed at N44.27 from N40.17. Presco followed closely with 10.20% while Airline Services, May&Baker and Eterna Oil completed the top five with 4.98%, 4.44% and 4.04% respectively.

Guinness dipped further as it again shed 6.38% of its previous close price to end today’s trading activities at N74.90 from N80.00. Julius Berger shed 4.98% to take the second position. UAC Properties, Fidson Healthcare and Livestock Feeds all feature on the top price percentage losers’ log with 4.76%, 4.72% and 4.71% respectively.
