Nigerian Equities Market Update: WtD, MtD Market Returns Ramain in the Red

Completing a total of three black and one green days, the lead activities index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange dived south shedding 37Bpts. It was a mixed performance among the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Meanwhile, market returns for both Week to Date and Month to Date are in the red by 126Bpts and 128Bpts respectively.

Value loss by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N32.310 billion, same as 37Bpts below the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 15 advancers and 18 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -6.27% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N531.102 billion same as 5.74% below the year’s opening value.

Twenty four equities successfully ended the week above their respective opening prices. The list was led by Transcorp that swiftly added 22.78% and closed at N0.97 from N0.79 where it opened the week. African Prudential and Stanbic IBTC followed with 9.70% and 9.12% gains respectively. Diamond Bank and Unilever completed the top 5 list 7.14% and 6.77% gain.

Thirty one equities closed down during the week. Fidelity which was adjusted for dividend led the decliners log with 20.59% loss. 7-Up Bottling and ETI shed 14.25% and 13.41% respectively while Okomu Oil and ETI balanced the top 5 list for the week.

Six equities were adjusted for cash dividend during the week; Total Oil (N7.00)- Payment Date: 12th June, 2017, Unilever Nigeria (10k)-Payment Date: 12th May, 2017, Custodian & Allied (18k)- Payment Date: 3rd May, 2017, Fidelity Bank (14k)- Payment Date: 4th May, 2017, Pharmadeko (5k)- Payment Date: 5th May, 2017 and Nascon (70k)- Payment Date: 8th May, 2017.
