Nigerian Equities Market Update: Lead Activities Index Ended the Week Red Despite 4 Green Days

Having added 4Bpts to its trading points on the last trading day of the week, equities trading on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange ended the week at 28Bpts below where it started the week. It was a mixed performance among the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Meanwhile, Month to Date, trading point stands above opening by 911Bpts.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during Friday’s trading activities was N4.062 billion, same as 4Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 22 advancers and 21 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date gain is 4.61% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N472.029 billion same as 5.10% above the year’s opening value.

A total of 30 equities ended the week above their respective opening prices. The list was led by May & Baker that gained 14.84%. Linkage Assurance followed with 11.54% while UBA, OANDO and Neimeth completed the top 5 list with 9.62%, 7.77% and 7.55% respectively.

31 listed equities on the other hand, rounded up the week at prices below their openings for the week. Newrest Asl topped the list with 13.22% loss. C&I Leasing came next with 11.84% and Diamond Bank, Eterna Oil and CCNN completed the list with 11%, 8.74% and 8.18%.

The following equities were adjusted for cash dividend within the week; Dangote Cement (Div-N8.50, Payment Date: 26th May, Agm Date: 24th May). UACN (Div-N1.00, Payment Date: 15th June, Agm Date: 14th June). Okomu Oil (Div-N1.50, Payment Date: 27th June, Agm Date: 23rd June). BOC Gases (Div-N0.05, Payment Date: 26th June, Agm Date: 8th June).

A total volume of 15,848,874 units of 50 kobo each arising from the consideration for 56,161,661 Ashaka Cement Ordinary Shares of 50 kobo tendered by 2,535 shareholders of AshakaCem were added to the shares of Lafarge Africa Plc and admitted to trade at the Exchange on Thursday 18th May, 2017.
