Nigerian Equities Market Update: Corporate Earnings Boosted Market Performance- WtD, MtD

Rounding up the last trading day of the week, month and 1st quarter of 2017, trading activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange inched south, giving up 7Bpts and closed at 25,516.34 point. It was a mixed performance among the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Both Week to Date and Month to Date returns were green at 24Bpts and 74Bpts respectively.


Conversely, the first quarter of 2017 ended red as the market lost 505Bpts of its opening figure for the quarter. It should be noted that this quarter completed the third consecutive quarter that the market will end on a red note. In other words, the last quarter the market closed up was the second quarter of 2016. Kindly be guided accordingly.


Value lost by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N6.046 billion same as 7Bpts below the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 19 advancers and 17 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -5.05% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N417.965 billion same as 4.52% below the year’s opening value.
During the week, the share price of Gt-Bank was adjusted for the earlier proposed cash dividend payment of N1.75. Note that the payment date of same is 7th April, 2017. No equity is schedule for price adjustment in the new week (3rd -7th April, 2017).
Proposed dividend during the week includes; Unilever-10k, Closure: 18th April, FCMBH- 10k, Closure: 13th April, Glaxo-Smithkline-30k, Closure: 13th April, CAPL-N2.20, Closure: 30th May, Trans Nation Express-5k, Closure: 3rd July, Mobil Oil-N8.00, Closure: 28th April, Axa Mansard- 5k, Closure: 3rd May.
