nseasi

Taking a brief gasp after several rough days, equities trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange added marginal 5Bpts and closed at 25,460.45. It was a mixed performance among the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Week to Date, market is down by 133Bpts while total lost points in the month of February is now 221Bpts.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N4.753 billion same as 5Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 11 advancers and 13 lagers. NSEASI YtD loss is -5.26% while the Market Capitalization YtD loss stood at –N472.373 billion.

The mild positive performance posted by the lead index today does not suggest anything conclusive about the future volatility of the market. In other words, we cannot confidently confirm the end of the ongoing bearish moves. Making the picture more bearish is the sharp reduction in the list of active equities during today’s trading activities.

Leading the advancers list is Neimeth that added 4.92% of its previous close price to end the day at N0.64. Airline Services followed with 4.60% gain while Vitafoam, Caverton and Diamond Bank completed the top 5 gainers with 4.52%, 3.57% and 3.49% respectively.

Wapco on the other hand led the decliners list with 5.90%. Ag-Leventis came next with 4.88%. Uac-Properties, UCAP and FBNH completed the list as featured in the top performers’ log.
