Nigerian Equities Market: Update 30th January, 2017

Swiftly reversing points gained in the last three (3) trading days, the performance index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange ended south, shedding 42Bpts and closed at 26,217.18. Aside NSE-Consumer Goods Index and NSE- Lotus II that added marginal points, other observed market indexes shed points as shown in the index movement table. Month to Date all sub indices in our list closed red safe NSE-Pension and NSE-Banking Index.

Value lost by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N38.204 billion same as 42Bpts below the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 9 advancers and 19 lagers. NSEASI YtD loss is -2.45% while the Market Capitalization YtD loss stood at –N226.210 billion.

Amongst the nine advancers seen in the market today, 7up topped with 5% gain above its previous closing price. Caverton followed closely on the log with 4.35%. Eterna Oil gained 4.02% while Forte Oil and FBNH completed the top 5 list with 2.95% and 1.74% respectively.

Meanwhile, the price percentage losers’ log was led by Continental Re-Insurance that gave up 4.92% of its previous close price to rest the day at N1.16. Oando lost 4.67% to pitch second on the list. Neimeth closed at N0.70 having lost 4.11%. Diamond Bank and Transcorp completed the top 5 with 4.04% and 3.70%.
