Nigerian Equities Market: Update 27th February, 2017

Having received another positive performance from Zenith Bank during today’s trading hours, the lead performance index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange ended on a green note, as it added 49Bpts and closed at 25,373.42 from 25,250.37 where it ended the previous day’s trade. Aside NSE-Insurance and NSE-Lotus II that shed points, other observed market indices gained. After today’s move, total lost points within the current month adjusted to 255Bpts. Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N42.587 billion same as 49Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 17 advancers and 17 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -5.59% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N465.660 billion same as 5.04% below the year’s opening value.


The management of Zenith Bank in the just released financial statistics for the year ended 31st December, 2016, grew both the top and bottom line over the comparable year of 2015. Thus, N1.77 dividend had been proposed as the final dividend, in addition to the previously paid 25k interim dividend. In other words, a total cash dividend for the year by the financial institution is N2.02. This is an improvement over the N1.80 paid in 2015.
