Nigerian Equities Market: Update 26th January, 2017

Consolidating yesterday’s positive performance, equities trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange added 19Bpts and closed at 26,289.95 from 26,240.45. Aside NSE-Consumer Goods that shed 47Bpts other observed market indices closed green. After today’s performance, Week to Date return increased to 25Bpts while Month to Date loss reduced to 218Bpts.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N17.032 billion same as 19Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, today’s trading activities produced 24 advancers and 19 lagers. NSEASI YtD loss is -2.18% while the Market Capitalization YtD loss stood at –N201.178 billion.

Standing tall among the advancers is Forte Oil, the equity took advantage of a keen bidders that suddenly emerged at mid trading hour and cleared all volume on offered side, leaving investors with increased appetite to position in its shares.  Nascon followed on the table with 4.97% gain while Cadbury, Oando and Neimeth completed the top 5 price percentage gainers log for the day.

On the other hand, MRS led the losers’ log with 9.74% on market sentiments. Guinness received stiffer negative reaction from traders after unveiling unimpressive half year financials. Conoil, Mobil and UACN completed the list as shown in the top performers’ log.

Please note that we maintained that traders should play cautiously around the market arena due to the weak volatility.
