Nigerian Equities Market: Update 20th January, 2017

Concluding the week’s trading activities, performance index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange gained marginal 8Bpts to close the last day of the week at 26,223.54 point. Aside NSE-Oil&Gas that lost 69Bpts other observed market indices closed blue. Total loss recorded through the week is 39BPts while 242Bpts had been lost Month to Date.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N7.548 billion same as 8Bpts below the opening value.  Meanwhile, today’s trading activities produced 28 advancers and 12 lagers. NSEASI YtD loss is -2.42% while the Market Capitalization YtD loss stood at –N224.023 billion.

Thirty equities closed the week above their respective opening prices. The list was led by Continental Reinsurance that gained10.91% followed by Mobil, Unity Bank, Nahco and UACN Properties. Twenty seven equities depreciated through the week. The losers were led by Forte Oil with 10.14% loss. Guinness, Total Nig Plc, Diamond Bank and Nestle are other top 5 losers for the week.

Stanbic IBTC Holdings proposed a 5k dividend for the year ended 31st December, 2015 during the week. The dividend closure and payment date are 3rd January and 9th March Respectively. Meyer Plc on the other hand announced the commencement of its 291,489,840 right issue at 75k/share. The right is scheduled to run between 9th January, 2017 to 15th February 2017.

UACN property also seeks its application to list the 1.71 Million right issues. The Qualification Date for the Rights Issue was Thursday 19 January 2017.
