Nigerian Equities Market: Update 17th February, 2017

Rounding up the week, equities trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange gained 44Bpts and closed at 25,164.91. It was a mixed performance among the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Meanwhile, Week to Date activities trended south by 69Bpts and a total of 335Bpts have been lost from the market trading points in the month of February.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N37.938 billion same as 44Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 21 advancers and 10 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -6.36% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N537.822 billion same as 5.82% below the year’s opening value.


On the first trading day of the week, the share price of Vitafoam was adjusted for the recently announced 12k cash dividend. Please note that the AGM date will hold on 2nd March, 2017 while the payment date remains 9th March, 2017.
Led by Pz.Cussons with 21.29% gain, a total of twenty (29) equities appreciated in price during the week, Julius Berger followed on the list with 10.22% that closed its price at N38.39 from N34.83 where it opened the week. Beta Glass Plc, Forte Oil and United Capital completed the top 5 list with 10.22%, 9.91% and 7.61% respectively.
On the losers’ log, Vitafoam led the 25 lagers for the week with 13.04% loss; as noted above, the loss was due to the price adjustment of its share price to accommodate the recently announced 12k cash dividend. Fidson Healthcare followed closely with 11.40% while Nigerian Breweries, CAP Plc and Eterna Oil completed the top 5 with 8%, 7.5% and 6.7% respectively.
