Nigerian Equities Market Update: 11th May, 2018: NSEASI Lost 48Bpts WtD

Rounding up the last trading day of the week, equities trading on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange journeyed 26Bpts to the positive region as the lead performance index closed at 41,022.31 from 40,914.94. NSE-Insurance and NSE-Industrial Goods closed red while other observed market indices gained. Week to Date, total lost points was 48Bpts while 60Bpts had been lost during the current month. Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N38.894 billion, same as 26Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 26 advancers and 23 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date gain is now 7.27% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.250 trillion same as 9.19% above the year’s opening value.

Preview: Week Ended 11th May, 2018

The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization depreciated by 0.48% to close the week at 41,022.31 and N14.860 trillion respectively. Similarly, all other indices finished lower with the exception of NSE Premium. NSE Banking, NSE Insurance, NSE Oil/Gas and NSE Lotus II indices that appreciated by 0.35%, 0.45%, 0.83%, 0.13% and 0.34% respectively while the NSE ASeM closed flat.

Thirty-five (35) equities appreciated in price during the week, Forty-nine (49) equities depreciated in price, while Eighty-five (85) equities remained unchanged. Leading on the advancers’ log was CCNN that gained 29.75% through the week, Veritas Capital followed with 27.27% price appreciation and Eterna Plc, Linkage Assurance and Okomu Oil Plc made up the top 5 advancers’ for the week.

On the lagers’ log, Niger Insurance led with 14.29% loss, Japaul shed 13.04% of its opening price to come next on the log, While UACN Property and Unity Bank gave up 12.60% and 10.83% of their respective opening prices. Completing the list was Diamond Bank that shed 9.95% as investors priced the shares low due to the unimpressive financials released on Friday.

During the week, the management of Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) proposed a cash dividend of N1.25 for the year ended 31st December, 2017. Closure date is slated for 18th – 22nd May, 2018, Payment date is 29th June, 2018 while the Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 28th June, 2018 at Eko Hotel & Suites, Plot 1415, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island Lagos.
