Nigerian Equities Marker Suspends Positive Sentiments, Shed 10Bpts

Pausing positive move, equities trading on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange ended in the red, as the lead performance pointer, NSEASI gave up 10Bpts and closed at 25,304.25 from 25330.10. It was a mixed performance amongst the observed market indices in this report. Thus, Week to Date, the lead index is 33Bpts above opening while the total gained points in the month of August is now 247Bpts. See the index movement table for details.

It is the pick period of half year earnings season, and as reiterated in our previous reports, half year earnings will lead the market fundamentals through this month. Focus at the moment should be on banking equities with half year dividend policies, and few other listed equities yet to be adjusted for the recently announced cash/scrip dividends, also observe possible outcomes from few listed equities yet to unveil the full year numbers.

The total value lost by the Market Capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N13.484 billion, same as 10Bpts below the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 11 ADVANCERS and 19 LAGERS. NSEASI Year to Date loss is now 573Bpts while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N242.611 billion same as 187Bpts above the year’s opening value.

Leading on the gainers’ log May&Baker that lead with 9.89% gain that closed its price at N3.00 from N2.73. UPL followed On the log with 9.40% gain, thus it rounded up trade at N1.63 from N1.49. Mansard, JaizBank and Nigerian Breweries completed the top 5 price percentage gainers’ list with 6.36%, 5.00% and 2.78% respectively.

On the flip side, CHIPLC led with 8.11% loss, thus it rounded up trade at N0.34 from N0.37. Fidson Healthcare followed with 7.25% to close at N3.71 from N4.00. Lasaco, Livestock Feeds and Chams completed the top 5 price percentage losers’ log with 6.06%, 4.76% and 4.55% respectively.

Over the Counter Market Index and Capitalisation both closed flat, thus they closed at point 711.96 and N522.99 billion respectively. Today’s performance produced zero advancer and zero decliner. Kindly view today’s price list Here.

As at the time this report was gathered, Brent Crude sells at 45.10$/bbl, this is 118Bpts below the previous close price.

The I&E FX Window opened at N386.15 traded as high as N393.05 before rounding up at N385.75, having transacted a total of $43.16 million through the day. In the money market, the Overnight (O/N) rate as 21st August, 2020 closed at 2.00%, same as 0.38% below the previous closing position. Meanwhile, Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate as at 21st August, 2020 ended at 1.50% that is 0.25% below the previous close.
