Nigeiran Equities Market: Nestle, Unilever, Nem…Tops Gainers for the Week

Equities trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange concluded the week on a positive note, having added 27Bpts to its trading points on the last trading day of the week. Aside NSE-Oil&Gas and NSE-Industrial Goods that closed the week red, other observed market indices were positive. Meanwhile, total points garnered through the week was 90Bpts, this had reduced the Month to Date loss to 36Bpts. See the index movement table for details.


Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N23.412 billion same as 27Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 16 advancers and 9 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is -6.09% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date loss stood at –N512.525 billion same as 5.54% below the year’s opening value.


A total of 24 equities appreciated during the week. The list was led by Nestle Foods that added 16.96% same as N106.57 to close the week at N734.99 from N628.42. Coming next is Unilever with 11.46% increase in value. Nem Insurance, Honey Well and Continental Reinsurance completed the top 5 gainers for the week with 9.64%, 5% and 4.95% respectively.
The 31 equities that closed down during the week were led by African Prudential with 15.56%. United Capital followed on the list with 15.09% loss while Nahco, 7-Up Bottling and Livestock Feeds are other top losers for the week.
Three equities were adjusted for cash dividend during the week. African Prudential was adjusted for 30k dividend, Transcorp Hotels was marked down for 40k cash dividend while Nigerian Breweries was adjusted for N2.58 dividend. Please note that, the qualification date for Access Bank dividend is Monday 13th March, 2017.
