Equities Market Update: NSEASI Closed Friday in the Positive Territory, Gave up 127Bpts WtD

Trading activities on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange ended the last trading day of the week with a mild gain, as the lead performance pointer NSEASI added 6Bpts to its trading points, and closed at 30,046.70 from 30,029.15. It was a mixed performance amongst the observed market indices as shown in the index movement table. Thus, Week to Date, activities index is below opening by 127Bpts while the total lost points within the month of June is now 329Bpts. See the index movement table for details.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during Friday’s trading session was N7.727 billion, same as 6Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 18 advancers and 12 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date loss is now 440Bpts while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.511 trillion same as 1,290Bpts below the year’s opening value.

Week Ended, 14th June, 2019

It was a four days trading week as the Federal Government of Nigeria declared Wednesday 12th June 2019 as Public Holiday to mark the Democracy Day celebrations. As noted above, a total of 127Bpts was snatched off the lead market trading points as the first three days was bearish while a mild gain was recorded on Friday. The market capitalization of listed equities rounded up the week at N13.233 trillion, having lost 127Bpts of its opening value.

Activities during the week moved 19 equities above their respective opening points while 31 shed prices and 118 equities remained unchanged. Leading on the advancers’ log for the week was Forte Oil that added 14.17% to its opening price and closed at N29.40 from N25.75. Glaxo Smithkline followed closely with price appreciation of 11.11% which pushed the price to N8.50 from N7.65. completing the top 5 list are; Consolidated Hallmark, Royal Exchange and ABC Transport with 10.00%, 9.09% and 7.14% respectively.

Decliners’ log on the other hand was led by Nahco with 11.80% loss to close at N2.99 from N3.39. Cutix lost 11.25% and closed at N1.42 from N1.60. CCNN, CILEASING and NPF-MCRFBK completed the top 5 list with 10.00%, 9.87% and 9.72% respectively.

Market Outlook

We are of the opinion that, until the government settles key economic issues, such as naming the new ministers amongst others, market tempo will remain weak. Nevertheless, positions by half year expectations remain the best investment approach at the moment. Safe Trade.
