Nigerian Equities Market: Weekly Update and Outlook

The five trading days of the just concluded week slashed 72Bpts off the 148Bpts gained in the previous week. Thus, NSEASI closed the week at 27,450.91 from the opening of 27,650.32. NSE-Premium, NSE-Lotus II and NSE-Industrial goods all closed in the red while other observed market indices gained as shown in the index movement table.

Trading activities for the week produced 27 advancers and 25 lagers. NSEASI YtD return is currently -4.16% while the Market Capitalization YtD return stood at –N422.605 billion.

The share price of four listed equities was adjusted for dividend (full and interim) during the week. Zenith Bank was adjusted for 25k interim dividend, Ag-Leventis was marked down for 10k final dividend for the year ended 2016. Total Nigeria Plc on the other hand was adjusted for N3.00 interim dividend while Custodian & Allied Insurance was marked down for 7k interim dividend.

The management of United Bank for Africa (UBA) unveiled its financial statistics for the period ended 30th June, 2016. An interim dividend of 20k was announced for the reported period. The closure dates is between 12th and 16th September 2016 (both dates inclusive) while payment date is 19th September 2016.

Volume index for the week is 0.78 while Buy and Sell volume stands at 28% and 72% respectively.

Outlook

The National Bureau of Statistics delayed the release of the nation’s Headline Inflation Index for the month of July as expected last week. News has it that same will be released this week. Reactions to the figure will contribute to market fundamental during the week. Meanwhile we foresee a mixed performance through the next five trading days.
