Nigerian Equities Market Update for the Week Ended 9th June, 2017

Racing through 33,000 point, equities trading on the floor of the Nigerian stock Exchange took full side with the bull on Friday as it ended the week at 33,276.68. Total point added was 103Bpts. Save our HWC5-Index that shed marginal 6Bpts, other observed market indices gained. In all, 607Bpts was added to market trading points through the week while 1,281Bpts had been added in the current month. See the index movement table for details.

Value added by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N117.090 billion, same as 103Bpts above the opening value. Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 44 advancers and 17 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date gain is 23.82% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N2.257 trillion same as 24.41% above the year’s opening value.

A total of 59 listed equities ended the week above their respective opening prices. The list was led by May & Baker that added 58.66% and closed at N2.84 from N1.79. Cadbury followed with 43.89% while Forte Oil, Sterling Bank and Seplat completed the top 5 list with 39.78%, 34.18% and 33.87% respectively.

Meanwhile, University Press led the 21 losers for the week with 9.66% loss as it ended the week at N3.46 from N3.83. Jaiz Bank followed with 7.69% while Thomas Wyatt, Unilever and Eterna Plc completed the top 5 list with 7.41%, 5.17% and 5.13% respectively.

The share price of Eterna Oil was adjusted for the previously announced 30k dividend during the week. The payment date was 7th of June, 2017.

The management of International Breweries released its audited financial performance for the year ended 31st March 2017. Save the growth recorded in the Total Revenue, the result was a lower performance against the corresponding year of 2016. Please note that it maintained a no dividend status owing to the company’s gearing ratio.
