Nigerian Equities Market Update: Week Ended 2nd June, 2017

Rounding up the four trading day of the week ended 2nd June, 2017, equities trading on the floor of The Nigerian Stock Exchange added another 349Bpts to end the week at 31,371.63. All observed market indices closed the day green. Week to Date, market points grew by 794Bpts while Month to Date increased by 635Bpts. Please note that off all the observed market indices NSE-Oil&Gas closed red (WtD, MtD). See index movement table for details.

Value gained by the market capitalization of the listed equities during today’s trading activities was N365.580 billion, same as 349Bpts above the opening value.  Meanwhile, trading activities for the day produced 51 advancers and 8 lagers. NSEASI Year to Date gain is 16.73% while the Market Capitalization Year to Date gain stood at N1.598 trillion same as 17.29% above the year’s opening value.

Precisely 23rd June, 2016 the market hits its highest high of 31,071.25 (this was achieved through a very sharp growth) and started dropping from the next trading day. This is quite similar to what is at play around the market arena at the moment. The market just broke the said 2016 highest high as investors watch what the next move will be. We maintained that investors should tread cautiously.

 

During the week, the share price of CAP was adjusted for the previously announced N2.20 cash dividend payment.

 

On a weekly basis, FBNH led the gainers log with 31.29% as it closed at N6.42 from N4.89. UAC-Property followed with 25.23% while AxaMansard, May&Baker and Champion Breweries completed the top five list with 24.74%, 22.60% and 19.91% respectively.

 

7-up on the other hand led the losers log with 14.24%, linkage followed with 12.70% and Oando, Seplat and Nig. Enamelware completed the list with 10.33%, 10.26% and 4.98% respectively.
